Webinar Overview

Disclosure of public records held by law enforcement agencies is controlled by many different laws, not just the Public Records Act (PRA). For example, some records may be subject to the Criminal Records Privacy Act, while others are controlled by federal law. With law enforcement agencies experiencing an increase in records requests, careful compliance with the laws is necessary to avoid potential PRA penalties.

Educational Objectives

This updated webinar, which we last offered in 2020, will dig into how the Public Records Act and other laws apply to the different types of records held by law enforcement agencies, what records or information may be exempt (including how to clarify when it is unclear), and requirements/best practices for managing law enforcement records requests.

Presenters

  • Emily Romanenko, Member, Ogden Murphy Wallace, PLLC.
  • Sarah Doar, Legal Consultant, MRSC.
