Webinar Overview
Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) are becoming increasingly popular as living options for family members, renters, and homeowners. Recent legislation requires local governments to provide more flexibility in their ADU regulations. These changes present both opportunities and challenges for cities and counties working to integrate more ADUs into their communities.

In this webinar, we will explore how different municipalities are adapting to these new requirements, what strategies they are using to encourage ADU development, and the lessons they are learning along the way. Participants will gain insights into the current regulatory landscape, practical tips for promoting ADU construction, and the broader implications for community housing strategies.

Educational Objectives
In this webinar, you will learn:

  • State requirements that local governments must meet when adopting development regulations for ADUs.
  • How several cities and a county are conducting a public process to meet those requirements.
  • How ADUs can expand housing options as part of a community-wide housing strategy.
  • Key considerations for allowing ADUs for rental housing and homeownership, including:
  1. Zoning standards
  2. Unit lot subdivisions and condominiums
  3. Parking and design standards
  4. Reduced connection fees and impact fees
  5. Coordination with middle housing regulations
  6. Whether to allow ADUs to be tiny homes on wheels or used as short-term rentals
