Webinar Overview

Disclosure of public records held by 911 emergency dispatch agencies is controlled by the Public Records Act (PRA). However, applying exemptions to the unique records held by these agencies can be difficult, especially if the agency is independent from a local government police department. With increased requests directed at 911 dispatch agencies and their law enforcement partners, careful compliance with the laws is necessary to avoid potential PRA penalties.

Educational Objectives

This webinar will dig into how the Public Records Act applies to the different types of records held by 911 dispatch agencies, what records or information may be subject to disclosure or exempt (including the special challenges associated with shared databases), and requirements/best practices for managing 911 dispatch records requests.

Presenters

  • Shelly Reeves, Public Records Specialist, CRESA 911.
  • Sarah Doar, Legal Consultant, MRSC.
